I want to make a grilled cheese sandwich. Do I need two slices of cheese and one slice of bread or two slices of bread and one slice of cheese? I forget.

One slice of bread makes cheese toast, and it is usually broiled, not grilled. That would tend to get a little messy.

I'd go with 2 slices of bread

One pat of butter, one slice of bread, one slice of cheese (or one quarter cup of grated cheese), some crumbled bacon, a bit of diced onion, one slice of tomato, another slice of bread, another pat of butter. Do not under any circumstances, vary the order or you will end up with angel food cake.

My secret recipe for the perfect grilled cheese sandwich is 1 banana (sliced) 1/2 c salsa (hot) 2 slices of bologna (dirtied) Carefully squeeze banana slices between your fingers until thoroughly messy. Then peel the bologna slices off the wall and lastly pour the salsa over your head and you're done. enjoy

Heat the pan....butter 2 slices of bread and put the buttered side in the pan, top it with 2 slices of cheese and put the other slice of bread with the butter side up and turn when crispy.
