My town doesn't celebrate. I might be the only part-Irishman here. A city 7 miles north of me holds their parade on March 15th this year.

St Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. Celebrating it on any day other than May 17th is pointless and disrespectful to the Irish. It would be like celebrating July 4th in September.

Yes, they will be celebrating on Saturday here as well. That's because St. Patrick's Day has been moved by the church authorities. This happens when March 17 falls during Holy Week; this last happened in 1940 when Saint Patrick's Day was observed on 3 April in order to avoid it coinciding with Palm Sunday, and is happening again this year, when it shall be held on 15 March for the novus ordo liturgy and April 2 for the traditional Latin Mass to avoid the second day in Holy Week.

What is more interesting is how Ireland has changed its celebration of St Paddy's Day and has made it more similar to the US model.
