  • You can't insure something for two billion dollars, can you? I mean, when they pay out, the insurance place would be bankrupt. Also would they even accept insurance for something dsigned to be destroyed? I don't know, seems like bombers are just a federal money pit.
  • NOPE! The government is its own insurance pretty much. For instance, if the bomber had crashed into someone's house, the USAF would've automatically picked up the bill for all damages. Basically, the AF just bit the bullet for $2 billion for the jet, about 250k for the fuel, and another 10 or 20k for misc. items onboard. Atleast they diddn't have to payout the 1+ million in death benefits to the families of the two pilots- thank goodness they walked away!
  • I'll pick nits here. The bomber only costs $1.2 billion to build. And no, it wasn't insured.
