Why did the Romanovs not leave when they could? were the so ill informed as to their situation that they did not see the danger, even when they were taken into house arrest?

    Excellent question. I think it may have been the psychology of royalty. There's a sense of entitlement that goes along with thinking you are ruling by divine right. I think they could not conceive of the possibility that they would be overthrown, let alone executed. Perhaps it's a combination of arrogance and ignorance.
