  • They did a study of this for children and it makes sense. If they don't get enough sleep, they are lethargic all day, so they don't move quickly enough to burn calories, especially during the main times they intake calories (probably lunch and dinner).
  • I know that when you don't get enough sleep, your brain needs more sugar to keep it focused, so usually people will eat more. This could cause some significant weight gain.
  • Being too tired really slows your whole metabolism down to a crawl. Your body can't digest what you eat, it can't burn it. You don't have the energy to use what you consume. You aren't feeling good enough to really burn calories and digest well when you are awake, either.
