I'm not certian I've heard that term used before, but I think I understand what you are asking. Yes and no. I think we could do with a lot more respect for women. However I've known some to get irked when one simply holds the door open and consider that a biased insult.

If you mean using "he" all the time to mean all encompassing . . . I was working in the '70's. I'm pretty numb to it all by now.

Yeah, I do. Even if it's in the positive, widely-believed-as-fact gender based social divisions don't help the cause of social equality. Why is the first thing people always ask about a new born 'is it a boy or a girl'? Kids, adults are screwed right from the word go. We need to counter that, in language and other communicable fields.

uhm if i read "he" when referring to "him/her" i don't really care, it happens in other languages without being offensive all the time so it doesn't bother me. but if you hear people talking and placing women over men or men over women i might be a little irkedo out by it. stating differences is one thing but favoring one over the other seems kinda pointless cuz without the other we wouldn't be here anyway

what a really good question. i do care and fully support the transsexual movement towards liberation. we need to take the power away from words and also find a way to express ourselves without leaving others out. i mention the tranny mov't or a.k.a queers because in many ways its at the forefront of what i would like to consider the current feminist mov't. whats really interesting is how by using pronouns they attempt to destabilize the gender categories. it can get confusing but who gives a shit? bands like le tigre, chicks on speed, team dresch, (and many more i can't think of now) all actively participate in these movements and have some awesome songs! also writer simone de beauvoir really pegged language being male centered, you should totally read her. if your interested i know of many many more since i did study feminist studies ^_^
