Free, No. You could call a computer in Germany but to a phone you have to pay money.

Depending on your phone plan you could, but technically, that still wouldn't be free.

there should be a cheap number which you can ring first of all, and then type the number you want to ring afterwards. These calls aren't free. But they tend to be heck of a lot cheaper! have a look online :)

If both of you have computers with a mic and internet, I would recommend using skype. If you don't have a mic I would invest in one because I think that is the cheapest way to communicate long distances.
