  • ive never been personally but my ex grew upthere and was dead setongoing back. ive heard nothing but how beautiful van is. from what ive heard, go for it!
  • I have been there many times and I love it there. It is my favorite big city, one of the most beautiful and clean cities I've ever visited. But I have only visited, not lived. I don't know what the employment or housing situation is like. I think Da Ben Dan, another member here lives there or near by.
  • Vancouver is known as one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and one of the best places to live. Yes, I would definitely recommend it.
  • I live in Seattle and been up there a few times. It is similar to Seattle, but I think it's bigger. They have a great beach in the summertime, downtown is clean and safe, the people are nice. I think that the main difference between Seattle and Vancouver is the need for a passport to go from one to the other.
  • nice, a lot of rain...
  • Vancouver is a large metropolis and there falls prey to all that that entails. Like most Canadian cities, it is cleaner than the same size American city would be. It also has a bit of a European feel to it. Definitely more cosmopolitan than any Mainland American city. Prices are higher than most other places in Canada and housing is at a premium. A two bedroom condo downtown will hard to find for less than half a million dollars. There are places, like in all major cities, that you want to stay away from (unless you're a big fan of drugs and STDs) and in Vancouver that would be the East Hastings area. This is important as it is right beside a big tourist area called Gastown. In fact, walking between Gastown and Chinatown will take you right through East Hastings so watch out! There are some amazing parks, great theatres and at least two large venues for sports and/or rock concerts. If you've watched Battlestar Galactica and remember the scenes on Caprica... that's Downtown Vancouver. The really modern looking building featured in those scenes is the Greater Vancouver Public Library. Dining out can be a real blast as there are hundreds of amazing restaurants and shopping just can't be beat. And if you're into build-it-yourself computers their is a five block section of West Broadway that every second store is a discount computer store full to the brim with geeks. There are several large shopping malls within easy access of the downtown core. My fav is MetroTown. This brings me to public transportation. Vancouver has the best Public transportation of any city I've ever lived in with the possible exception of London, England and that was many years ago. The Sky Train rules and it's my way of getting to MetroTown. Or you could take the train out to New Westminster and visit the Quay Public Market or a floating Casino. The people are friendly and helpful (provided you stay out of East Hastings) and the climate is wonderful (in winter we have this wonderful snowfall... elsewhere it's called rain). Warm winters and cool summers. And every so often you bump into some guy with a walkie-talkie standing by a barricade who will say, "Sorry you can't go any further, they're filming an episode of 'Smallville' over there," or some such. You never know, you could bump into Richard Dean Anderson in the supermarket. Hope this helps.
