Onesies. Lots and lots of onesies - perfect lounging at home gear for the new addition. Wipes - baby wipes clean up EVERYTHING. No really, they do. A Pack-n-Play. Those portable cribs are AMAZING and allow you to set up a diaper changing station / bed anywhere...I had mine in the living room.... Blankets, blankets, blankets...because mommy and daddy will need something to curl up with during those ungodly-hour feedings... A vehicle and a good car seat. When the baby just won't stop crying, pack up baby in the car and drive around for a bit. The motion from the car will put the baby at ease and to sleep. A mirror the baby can play with. Keeps 'em busy for long periods of time. SPIT-RAGS...cloth diapers make the best ones. You need as many of those things that you can get your hands on.

One of those baby seats that rocks back and forth. Granted, you still can't leave the kid alone, but if you need a little quiet, or you need it to be quietly occupied while you make dinner or something... there you go.

Don't forget a passifier! Also, a swing can be a very good thing to give that baby the motion feeling without necessarily having to use petrol for the car. If you're breastfeeding, a breast pump is a necessity. If possible, an electric one. Bottles also very important! I will also repeat what has been mentioned above: Rags to wipe things up with! VERY VERY needed!
