Why do the majority of car stereo’s only allow recall of 12 FM stations?

Well, let's see.... there doesn't appear to be a technical limit because the FM band is limited to a maximum of 20MHz/200kHz channels = 100 channels. Modern electronics would easily be able to store 100 channels. So I suspect it's a usability thing.. most people would not have more than 12 favorites, and creating a button interface that allows you to easily get at more than that while still keeping your eyes on the road, would be a challenge. Also, the 6-button/station idea has been around for a very long time and people are used to it.
