yes, go to a bedding store, like mattress firm and lay down on the mattress', you'll feel the difference. Their is usually a price difference between the 2. I have a regular king and the cal. king by simmons was about $400 more when we bought ours. The cal king comes in different softness just like all the other mattress'. Also if you get a cal king, you will have to buy cal king sheets which are a little bigger.

Another thing you can do is just punch the mattress and see if it has the softness/firmness you want. That's how I picked.
