  • ME! =) A player is off side when he is ahead of the last defender when the ball is being played to him orhe has possesion of the ball! oh i hope that makes sense lol
  • I dont think anyone really understands the offside rule anymore, it used to be so simple but now with not. Is a player interfering with play or not. what chance do we stand of figuring it out when the refs aint got a clue themselves, god i liked it ten years ago things were so much more simple
  • I do. I have to - my wife is a qualified referee. The shame of not understanding it would be too great to bear.
  • I understand it. Dont pass in front of the last defender of the opposing team. I always was taught dont cherrypick, if you are in a position to make an offsides pass simply run the ball or call for support.
  • Wow, all of these answers are misconseptions. Trust me, im a ref. The moment a player is passed a ball(not when he recieves it) and he is passed the 2nd to last defender (goalie counts as a defender) he is offsides. OR if a player is in offsides position and interferes with the play. The biggest example is if a player is shooting, and a teammate of the shooter is standing next to the goal.
  • Me. It is not an offence in itself to be in an offside postion. Once the player recives the ball from a team mate or unintentionally by an oppostion player then he is offside. If he interfers with play he is offsde. If a defender plays the ball to the goal keeper and the player offside gets the ball and scores it is a goal. If the defender gets the ball and the offside player stops him from playing the ball or distracts him then he is offside.
  • the guy who wrote it years ago and hes ded
