For the money it is by far the smart parts Ion..... a highend gun under 300 bucks..... cant beat that.... it has the anti-chop "vision" system that utilizes infrared "eyes" to sense the balls.... its turny legal..... has different firing modes, semi auto, 3-burst, and full auto.... as well as a "rebound" mode which is much like a ramping chip. the quality is impecable, as well as the performance. while the tippman 98 and 1-5 are good guns, they cost too much to make them go as fast as any electronic markers/ ive seen both of those guns take beatings and still fire no problems, kinda like the AK47 of the painball world in my opinion... the best gun ever would have to be th DYE D-5..... got to play with one of those, :D very nice, only complaint is it has alot of settings. i got kinda confused with all of it. it fires hella fast tho, and acurate as hell..... so yeah thats my .02

Opinions on the best gun may vary. Currently the best gun is a Dark Angel but those cost over $3000. In the price range of $100-$1000 I'd have to say the Tippman98 custom is the best. Durability and speed make this gun top of the line. It is said to be capable of shooting 15balls per second. Much faster than any other competition (except the Dark Angel).

So if you want the best gun possible. Dark Angel. But if your not really rich the Tippman98 is the best way to go.

Well there truly is no best paintball gun. How good the marker is depends on which one suits you. There are several variables to consider such as the weight of the gun, length, bps (rate of fire), design, looks, and much more.

Though there is no perfect marker. The fact of the matter is that more money will usually give you a better gun. Even though a different gun suits everyone, the more dough you put into your gun, the better it will perform.

I personally like the CCI Phantom =]

I have a Spyder Pilot and I like it because of the lightweight bolt and anti-chop system. It has Semi auto, 3 shot burst, 6 shot burst, and full auto. Plus you can change the rate of balls per second by the push of a button.

    That's a highly subjective question.
What's your play style like? Your budget? Do you prefer woodsball or speedball? What kind of air fills are you able to get: CO2 or HPA?

Tippmann and Spyders are decent starter markers, both work with CO2 and HPA and have the option for an E trigger.

Smart Parts Ion and the Dye SLG are nice entry level electro-pneumatic markers.

The CCI Phantom is awesome for a pump.

All those markers are good in speedball or woodsball. Anyone that says otherwise is full of it.

All fields and tourneys have a rate of fire cap of about 13 balls per second(BPS) and only allow a few specific firing modes from the electronic markers. Paying $1200.00 for a marker that can shoot 25 BPS is pointless since you can't use it. The advantages of a higher priced marker come for the weight savings and the "leading edge" technology in them.

After playin for 10 years and owning EVERY GUN on the market i have to say that it depends on the style of paintball that u play. If your a speedballer, The Dye DM series, the new Angels are nice. The Ego is a crazy ass gun. If your looking for something with a smaller profile the Smart Parts Shocker is a great gun. There are so many guns and remember the prices are set higher for a reason, u wouldn't race a kia against a lamborghini would u?

There is no one best gun. it depends on your style and how you like to play. if you are a speed freak then maybe you would like a matrix or an Angel Speed. if you like accuracy an Autococker would be the right for you. or if you want a cheap reliable gun, Spyders are the best for that. Also, Tippmanns cannot shoot 15 balls per second, i dont know what kind of parallel universe that guy came from. Their new Tippmann A-5 boasts an impressive 800 rounds per minuit. but really thats not impressive at all, infact that is slow.if you do the math (800/60) it equals out to 13.333 that is the same speed as all of the electric spyders and Piranahs shoot. Tippmann98 which is the downgraded version of the A-5 are even slower, they shoot 11 balls per second.

I think its the Spyder E-99 Avant. It's under $300 and has a very fast rate of fire(14 bps). The only bad thing is that it's electric and you have to charge it.

Even though this gun costs more than i do, the dye DM8 is the best bet for any advanced player. If you want to go a little cheaper though, the best gun that i have had that was under $250 was the smart parts epiphany. It shoots 17+ balls per second and i have had no problems with it.

The Tiberius Arms T9 Elite St Rifle.

This rifle is amazing for scenario or speed ball. It doesn't have a high fire rate, but you don't need one! This gun is made for and successfully completes one shot one kill as long as you can aim good. I'm not sure if it's legal in actual speed ball tournaments though...

honestly, i think the best paintball gun would be the tippmann A5, espessially when you get the upgrades of a flatline barrel a response trigger and a double trigger, it will cost you around 400 bucks but it will be worth it on the feild

You cannot rate a marker (paintball gun) without first defining the field. If you have played in both speedball and woodsball games you will understand that while some markers are good for woodsball, they are certainly not the best for speedball. If you want to play speedball - a clean tight field with loads of artificial structures, you want a marker that is light weight, relatively short in length and can sustain a high rate of fire (you want to be able to shift from a left to a right firing position and back again really fast). For this game an Intimidator, Spyder, Ego (check out the new Tippmann Triumph) etc. will do quite nicely. However if you want to play woodsball – field with trees, rocks, wet ditches and patches of open field you want a marker that will fire accurately over relatively long distances and can handle physical punishment like being dropped, mud and neglect (reflect on the AK-47). For this game you want a Tippmann A5 or X7 with a flatline barrel (for range) and for higher rates of fire, a response trigger (if you need durability) or H.E. E-Grip (if you never crawl over the mud).

There's 5 things you have to look for in a marker

    1. Reliability

    2. Accuracy (out of the box)

    3. Speed (up to a point)

    4. Range

    5. Field stripping/ cleaning

    6. Price

    Let's look at reliability

From my experience the MOST reliable marker is the sheridan VM-68, (when I had it, I abused the crap out of it and it still worked). It's old. Modern markers I would say the any by airgun designs- it's a unique mechanism which NEVER breaks- 15 year old marker still works and I use it every day

Accuracy- Pre-2004 autocockers- by far the most accurate markers out of the box (angels, ions, mags come close, but can't beat the accuracy)

Speed- Anyone who cites that they can get over 15 bps is a noob who has way too much money to spend. In most places, you are capped at 13 or 15 bps. It is truly pointless playing on a real field or woodsball. That being said, if you are screwing around, the more bps, the better, but you shouldn't buy an ion or angel just to screw around with- COMPETE with them, it makes you a better player.

Range- Tippman with a Flatline or automag with a ceramic Taso barrel. To me, it's a toss up, they are good sniper markers

Field stripping/barrel cleaning- Nothing worse than having to clean paint from a barrel in the middle of a fire fight- SERIOUSLY.
The old automag design (twist and lock barrel) was the best- just switch the barrel in 5 seconds
The old autococker design worked will too- brute force to shoot the paint out

Price- the Tippman is the least expensive (the $100 cockers in stores are not true autocockers in my book- missing alot of stuff). Angels- seen year-old new ones start at $400/$500, and they go up from there

Look/Feel/weight- This is a preference. Here's the bottom line, I'll take a reliable ugly, heavy, blocky hunk or metal over some light-weight piece of junk that chops every other ball any day. I want to be using the marker, not displaying it on a stand. A good marker should have scratches, dried, crusty paint and dings. That's how you tell a player from a poser

    So time for the points
    AGD (automag mechanism manufacturer) - 2 (2 top 5)
    Autococker 2
    Tippman 2

Bottom line, the automag is one of the best markers. I'm speak from experience- I've been playing for 15 years and I've had quite a number or markers (Sheridan's 98's, brass eagles, Spyders, Angels, cockers, mags).

I just bought a proto rail special edition for 284 dollars and it blows awyay my ion. you could put a couple hundred dollars into an ion and it woudn't be as good as a stock rail in any way.The best midprice gun is a shocker they are extremely accurate. If I had the money though I would definately buy an angel. my friend has one it is so sick in every way

it all depends on what type of paintball you play woodsball or speedball? and then how do you play conserve your shots or are you aggressive and take the front? as far as guns go " best " is a matter of opinion. i perfer a tippmann for woodsball or even speedball its reliable can take a hell of alot of damage if you get caught in the rain itll still work and has a million upgrades and mods! for speedball i have an ion its light small fast and tight. it also has many upgrades and is rather cheap.
both of these guns run about 200 each.

you know, I'm not a pro, but i will tell you that my friend and I shoot the A-5 and 98 Custom, both with response triggers and we are both at 15 bps...no matter what people say...BUT, we work as a team and usally take fields with no problem. usally only use a three round burst which you can control with your finger on the trigger, no buttons to push. But like the majority are saying it all depends on the person and the style and look as far as gun...when it comes to playing its up to the person also, remember the gun will only perform as good as the player that is using it, period...

That's right, there is no best gun, the best gun varies with the player and type of game. But, Tippmanns can shoot 15 balls per second, but the 98 may chop. My A-5, and all other A-5s, has it's Cyclone Feed System that rarely chops a ball, and it can feed at over 15 bps. The 98 can shoot over 11 bps, you just have to practice. Go to your local field and rent a gun. Do what fits your playing style and see what people that are doing the same thing own. I would look into those guns.

I dunno what planet these guys are from, but let me tell you what all the most prestigious tournament's players are using.

The Planet Eclipse EGO's or GEO's

Currently the EGO 11 is the newest Marker and the GEO 2.

By far the best paintball gun you can buy, with outstanding service.

If you can't afford the best gun in the world, then you should stick with a Tippmann Phenom.

    The BEST GUN IS....

Tippmann A5, w HE trigger, and cyclone upgrades.

I personally use this set up, with the cheapest BT Apex barrel, and I've gotten a lot of wins against those with egos, inverts, etc. Even in hyperball games! They used to look at me like, wtf is this nut trying to do with that tactical marker? That is till I whooped so many of them they had a new found respect for the A5, and the Apex ;). Now they complain to me about the apex being a cheating tool. Check it out you spacegunners - you guys shoot at upto 20+ bps. I shoot up to 3 bps, (even though my marker is easily capable of about 20bps). You guys got awesome barrels ($100+), while my Apex is only $39. Yall run fancy regulators and HPA, while I run stock and CO2. Now who had the advantage? and Who got they arses whooped? Therefore.... the A5 is the best paintball marker.

Yes you can include the 98, and X7, and X7 phenom in this class of 'Best Guns'

If your looking into getting a good but not to expensive gun you should get a smartparts ion. If you want a gun 500- 1000 you should get the shocker for sure. Last but not least if your going to get a gun 1000 and over there are more the one. there is the angel, dye m series, and the ego's which by the way are sick as hell!!!!!!!!!!!
