There's 5 things you have to look for in a marker
1. Reliability
2. Accuracy (out of the box)
3. Speed (up to a point)
4. Range
5. Field stripping/ cleaning
6. Price
Let's look at reliability
From my experience the MOST reliable marker is the sheridan VM-68, (when I had it, I abused the crap out of it and it still worked). It's old. Modern markers I would say the any by airgun designs- it's a unique mechanism which NEVER breaks- 15 year old marker still works and I use it every day
Accuracy- Pre-2004 autocockers- by far the most accurate markers out of the box (angels, ions, mags come close, but can't beat the accuracy)
Speed- Anyone who cites that they can get over 15 bps is a noob who has way too much money to spend. In most places, you are capped at 13 or 15 bps. It is truly pointless playing on a real field or woodsball. That being said, if you are screwing around, the more bps, the better, but you shouldn't buy an ion or angel just to screw around with- COMPETE with them, it makes you a better player.
Range- Tippman with a Flatline or automag with a ceramic Taso barrel. To me, it's a toss up, they are good sniper markers
Field stripping/barrel cleaning- Nothing worse than having to clean paint from a barrel in the middle of a fire fight- SERIOUSLY.
The old automag design (twist and lock barrel) was the best- just switch the barrel in 5 seconds
The old autococker design worked will too- brute force to shoot the paint out
Price- the Tippman is the least expensive (the $100 cockers in stores are not true autocockers in my book- missing alot of stuff). Angels- seen year-old new ones start at $400/$500, and they go up from there
Look/Feel/weight- This is a preference. Here's the bottom line, I'll take a reliable ugly, heavy, blocky hunk or metal over some light-weight piece of junk that chops every other ball any day. I want to be using the marker, not displaying it on a stand. A good marker should have scratches, dried, crusty paint and dings. That's how you tell a player from a poser
So time for the points
AGD (automag mechanism manufacturer) - 2 (2 top 5)
Autococker 2
Tippman 2
Bottom line, the automag is one of the best markers. I'm speak from experience- I've been playing for 15 years and I've had quite a number or markers (Sheridan's 98's, brass eagles, Spyders, Angels, cockers, mags).

I agree the Smart Parts Ion is the best paintball gun for the money. They are $165 now. You can't beat that. Get them packaged at Ultimate Paintball for even more savings. http://www.pntball.com

Id have to say Smart Parts guns require a lot of upgrades... they give you a crappy board, reg and so on. I would have to go with the Etek 3. Great board, barrel, and reg. This gun is durable and light and will only cost you $475 said and done.
