On the rare occasion when there's any chocolate of any kind left over in my house, I put it on the fridge. That'll keep it fresh, I think.

Yes, it will last longer if unwrapped but not indefinitely. Exposure to heat or changes in temperature will hasten the deterioration. According to this site, http://www.gourmetspot.com/factschocolate.htm the shelf life is about a year but I'd suggest eating it within 2 - 3 months at the longest.

If it is where it's humid or hot, even very warm, yes. But cool dark, dry is fine for quit awhile.
