Are you referring to..Francisco Paulino Hermenegildo Teódulo Franco y Bahamonde? if so..He was the dictator and later formally became head of state of Nationalist Spain from October 1936, and of all of Spain from 1939 until his death in 1975. His state combined early twentieth-century corporatism with nationalism and some aspects of fascism and a focus on traditional values. From 1947 to his death he was de facto regent of Spain.

Franco's dictatorship officially lasted from April 1, 1939 - November 20, 1975. Just to make things complicated, he was declared president of the government in February 1939, a few months before the end of the civil war. He relinquished this role in June 1973 but remained as Head of State and commander in chief of the military until his death.
