  • If the game actually says "GameBoy Color" on it, it will not work with the original GameBoy. In fact, you will notice that on true GameBoy Color games, the divot at the back end of the cartridge is not a divot, but raised, unlike the original GameBoy games. This is to prevent you from putting a GBC game into an incompatible GameBoy or GameBoy Pocket. The raised portion comes into contact with the game slot too soon, never allowing the contacts to connect.
  • None. Game Boys are not forward-compatible, but they are all backward-compatible. This means that any Game Boy game to date will work on the Game Boy Advance and the Game Boy Player. However, ONLY original Game Boy games will work on the original Game Boy. Also, as Unicycle stated, the shape of the cartridge keeps changing, preventing you from actually sticking in an incompatible game.
