  • it is legal in one pocket, nine ball, and straight pool, but not in 8 ball.
  • As long as you don't deliberately miscue to make the ball come off the bed of the table and the cue ball comes to rest again on the bed of the table, it is legal. Older rules stated that it could even hit the light, because the light was considered part of the table.
