  • If the fan seems normal (sounds like it) I would think that the problem may be that not enough heated coolant is getting to the heater core. There may be some flow which will cause it to heat up but once the blower kicks in it cools down far faster than new coolant can heat it up. Thus the hot for a few seconds then cold problem. There may be a few issues. The thermostat, The heater core or the hoses that lead from the heater core to the engine. The heater core may be plugged with gunk or the hoses that lead to it may be plugged or pinched. Disconnect the hoses at the engine and blast thrugh one with a hose. Any gunk plugging the core or hoses should be worked free. If the thermostat is bad the reading on the dash should show low temp. It should read @ 180-190. If it is bad you'll need to replace it. Good luck.
