  • Well, you raise a good point. (+5) There are surely better ways to argue. Such ways would include at least pretending to have an open mind about the topic, and indicating you will listen to reason. But to be honest, some people just talk to hear themselves. Such people (and questions) are best ignored.
  • I don't know. I commented to someone the other day about asking leading questions and she felt she didn't do anything wrong. Technically, she didn't. But I think if you truly want to know how people feel, then you should try to leave your bias out of it when you ask the question. I think they either do that to get support for their views to make themselves feel validated. OR they are expressing an opinion by forming it as a question.
  • Hi there, you have raised a really good point, I have noticed this too, and probably guilty of it myself, I think it's just natural to want people to agree with your opinion, and yes, it probably does make people feel better, I do find that when I've argued a point or disagreed, it's as though I have committed some crime, so I don't normally post a negative opinion any more, unless of course I've got the energy to argue the point if you know what I mean ;-)
  • I think because they just want to validate their point, or lecture to be honest. I think some do it, so they can wait for some to disagree so that they can pounce. I tend to stay away from questions like that, because I agree with you...if you really want honest answers leave your bias out of your question.
  • Validation... It proves they are correct in their thinking. It would be MUCH better to ask the question, and argue their point of view in the comments. That way they could/would get many more responses.
  • AB has grown to be more than just a Q&A site, it is becoming a social networking site of sorts. People will ask questions for fun, to provoke thought, to learn, and I have also noticed that the AB "community" has started forming sub-communities. Just like real life. I don't see a problem with it as long as everyone plays nicely. And if someone does go on a rampage, the overall community does police itself. On that note, if you look at your question, is it recursive?
