  • I haven't personally had to put one of my OWN pets down since becoming an adult, but my mother still has the remains of two of our family dogs in her closet because my dad doesn't want to see them, deal with them, or talk about them. They were "his" dogs and even after 3 and 8 years he's still torn up about letting them go:(
  • yes we always get the remains. We plan to make a place in the yard to scatter or bury them.
  • Yes, I got the ashes back. Over the years, I've purchased an appropriate urn for each of them and had a plate engraved for it. I have a glass enclosed bookcase and I keep the urns on the bottom shelf. It's hard to tell what they are, really, as they look like ceramic statues of dogs & cats. It doesn't look at all "creepy" if you know what I mean. My pets are very special to me and part of the family, so I couldn't imagine not getting the ashes back. But I know it's a personal decision for anyone who has to go through that.
  • Yes ! I have my dog's ashes on a shelf in our den and his remains are to be buried with my body when I die.
  • I was asked two times last night if I wanted to receive the ashes back. Hell no, it was bad enough that I couldn't take the body away and have it buried. This is my sixth dead cat since 2001 and I really prefer to do a burial, however, my mother's cat died two months ago. My brother who lives with my parents has been the "grave-digger" and when his first cat died back in December, he took it very hard and cried like a fiend I hear. I just could not ask him to dig my cat a hole so soon because it would just remind him of his pain and open up a wound. Then I think going to retrieve ashes would bring back all the sadness not to mention having a visible reminder of my dead pussy cat. How can you really be sure they give you the ashes from the correct cat? Do they operate things that strict with animals? Plus, they charge you extra for the ashes coming back, I passed on it.
  • I have wooden urns. I plan to have them buried with me when I join them in Heaven. :D
  • I had to put down one of my pugs....Chewie had a herniated disc in his back that was inoperable due to the cost with no guarantee that the surgery would be successful...didn't get the ashes back because the vet clinic was going to charge us a ridiculous amount. I was severely heartbroken...
