Roughly how much would it cost to go travelling in India for about 4 months? Only basic requirements, cheap accomodation etc..

The US State Department's per diem allowance is $79 a day where a two-mile taxi ride is 75 cents, a double room at the Taj Mahal Hotel is $85 a person, dinner for two at the Hotel President's tandoor restaurant is about $18 and with wine about $30. Using that as an average, you might be able to do India on 1/2 or less than that comfortably so $25-40 per day for 120 days.
