Help answer this question below.
I'm not sure where you live, but in Tennessee, a traffic violator is asked for proof of insurance and registration, each time a traffic stop is iniated.
Believe it or not, some states still do not require a driver to have auto insurance.
This may be one of the states you live.
In Virginia they ask for license and registration, but not insurance. They are able to look up your insurance with your license. I don't know why they can't just look up your registration as well... I really wish they could since I can never seem to find my registration card.
They're supposed to.
Here you are asked for proof of insurance and license. License obviously because you are required to have it when you operate a motor vehicle and proof of insurance because the system may not have you insurance information even though you have current coverage.
Sounds like you have plenty of experience being pulled over.
What you are asked for depends upon the situation and the officer involved.
that info is available to them on their onboard computer.
I wasn't aware of that. I thought they had to.
They certainly should, and still do. If an officer didn't ask for these things, it may have been an oversight. I don't know the details of the stop.
