the first petroliun distalite sold was kerosene for lamps gas was a waste product. so I'm guessing damn cheap.

I agree with MadMike, they probably gave it away. But if you consider just gasoline, then it wouldn't have been free. I'll take a guess at mabie 10 cents/L?

The first drive up gas station opened in 1913 in Pittsburg, Pennsylavania and the price records from a 1914 photograph show it as 4 cents per gallon.

I'm not sure, however I'm going to take a guess and say approx 15-20c/L. I do know that the first gas station was constructed in 1905, in Canada the first being 1907. And I did find this article which I found quite interesting. http://www.vancouverhistory.ca/archives_gas_station.htm
