  • Looks... Depends on the rider. Some like Dyna's and some like Softails. It is all cosmetic. I like the clean look of the Softails. Giving that look of a hardtail but comfort of a Dyna. The Wide Glide has more of a chopper rake on the front end... that is until the ROCKER came out. I wasn't too impressed with the Rocker's comfort, but that is my opinion. It might be great for someone else or it might change completely with a different seat. What I like best about the Softails are the rear tire. 200mm on most Softails and 240mm on the Rocker. The 200mm rides great on my Night Train and I have no regrets except for I wish I waited another year and got the six speed which now comes on both the Softails and the Dynas. Comfort is the key... which one feels good to you.
  • I agree largely with with Nighthawg - looks and the rider matter more than the intrinsic qualities of the bikes. If you live along the Utah-Nevada border, with hundreds of miles of dry straight empty highway, then you'll be looking cool and feeling better tootling along "in" the Softail. I live in Wisconsin, with crappy pot-holed roads, darting Deer, frequent roadkill, drunken cagers, and a statewide aversion to the use of turn signals. The Dyna feels safer and more comfortable in these circumstances; for looks, there is (until '09) the Dyna Wide Glide.
  • The Dyna has a much better suspension system and offers better handling. The Softail has a lesser suspension system and sacrifices handling for the classic Hardtail look. The Lord knows I love my Softail, but it doesn't compare to the more agile Dyna.
  • When my husband bought his bike he went with the Dyna over the Softail for the added turning ability. We have lots of twisty roads here.
