The reason I'm having great difficulty advising you about this (and why others have probably not answered you), is because I don't know you, your superiors, or the company where you are employed. I don't even know if the "new position" is a lateral transfer to another department within the company, or if it is a promotion that will give you higher "ranking" within the company food chain, more responsibilities, and more subordinates to supervise (if any). Once someone knows all of those things, they can probably offer you sound advice, regarding "tactics." One rule of thumb applies at most companies: More work or higher rank or more subordinates = more money. If more money isn't a part of the offer, then why accept the offer? Is relocation involved? If so, the company has an obligation to reimburse you for all of your moving expenses. +5
