Great question! I've often thought about that myself and the answer is I could only tell you when that time comes. I suppose the threshold would depend on the quality of my pet's life after the surgery, the age of my pet and my income at the time but there's really no logical formula I could apply because when it came down to it, I'd probably pay whatever I could reasonably afford. Last year, my husband and I got the bad news that our dog has Addison's, a fully treatable but incurable disorder which requires he get a shot to the tune of $130 every month for the rest of his life. It's a addition to our budget we hadn't anticipated but we didn't think twice about not doing it. He's our baby after all.
