it does depend on where the crack is, and if the crack spreads. if its in the shell you should be fine for the most.

bad effect...depends if its all the way through...interior to exterior, top to bottom. You just have to think about this...the sound quality of your drum will diminish slightly with every hole crack and piece of hardware thats on it. That's why low mass lugs, rim mounts, and single screw lugs are what a lot of drum companys are doing.
