  • Sediments are moved by suspension in river water.
  • Sediments are moved by erosion - could by water, could be wind.
  • crap. I can't believe I actually remember this from geology 105, but I do: The movement of sediments begin with with the production of sediment from chemical and mechanical weathering. These sediments can then be eroded and transported by water, waves, wind, or glaciers until it settles out in some type of depositional environment.
  • Sediment can be moved by ice as well, and is called Moraine http://www.reference.com/search?r=13&q=Moraine
  • The obvious answers, by erosion and suspension or saltation by water (rainfall, streams, rivers, waves, groundwater, and undersea currents) by wind, etc. have been provided, but there are other ways in which sediment is transported. Natural ways include ablation (heat and gravity), soil creep and landslides (gravity assisted by water or earthquake), and sub-sea landslides (turbidite flows). Also by volcanic eruptions, mud slides, etc. A lot of sediment is created and transported by life forms in the oceans, and even worms and burrowing animals. Finally, we humans are responsible for transporting large quantities of sediment, particularly building sand and aggregates.
