Japan is considered part of Asia, the UK part of Europe, Madagascar part of Africa, etc, yet New Zealand is not considered part of Australia. Why not?

    Australia is a country, not a continent. The continent is named Oceania and NZ is a part of this continent, as are a lot of the S Pacific islands.

    Distance: The UK (the island of Great Britain) is 22 miles off the coast of Europe at the closest point. Japan is slightly over 100 miles off the coast of Asia. New Zealand on the other hand is more than 1000 miles from the nearest point in Australia.

    Man you're Stupid. Australia is not a continent. Australasia or better known as Oceana is the continent of which NewZealand, Australia and other countires are part of!!! duh
