  • Their temperament will be almost purely how they are raised. Pits are sweet and energetic by nature.
  • I have had a great experience with my mixed pit. Very sweet, social with people and other animals, and extremely smart and energetic.
  • Not unless PEOPLE train them to be so...
  • Sadly I believe that they all have the capacity to be vicious. Of course mainly it is the way owners train them but it is also what they are bred for and is built into their genetic pool. I adore big dogs but Pit Bulls are the only dog I would not trust near a child even when it is trained.
  • They can and do have the temperament of any dog.
  • No, It's the media that makes them vicious... Pitbulls are a trend right now, the media focuses on the dog fighting and such which just makes them look bad, but It's just how you raise the pup =)
  • No they aren't unless trained to be or negelected like tossed in the back yard with no socialization/training or human contact. It all comes down to the owners in the end, which is true with any breed. Mine is not vicious she is a powerful dog but a friendly dog. But we take the time for our dogs they are part of our family.
  • No, but they need to be trained and socialized from a very young age. My dog is good with people in general, but does not know how to act around young children. I do not have kids, but whenever there are children around, I have to be very vigilant as my dog gets too worked up by children running and yelling and such (the children I am particularly talking about are my friend's kids who are ages 3 and 2 and have not been taught any social skills whatsoever). Pit bulls are just dogs, but they are very strong, determined dogs who can do a lot of damage if they are not well socialized and watched over.
  • They can be vicious when they are in a bad mood. +4
  • They do not take well to being confined and isolated. With good socialization and a lot of love, they are loyal, dependable, excellent pets.
  • If you bring them up that way.
  • Same as any other species, it depends on the individual temperament.
  • Not by nature. It depends on how they are raised, trained & cared for. Pit Bulls are large & strong dogs, & can be CONDITIONED to be vicious. Most are just big & lovable dogs.
  • No just the people that make them that way.
  • Pit bulls generally are docile. BUT if you raise them to be vicious they are!!
  • They can be, but it's usually down to how the handler trains and rears it.
