Why is it some really interesting questions get no attention, but some random questions get loads?

Well, in my case, my brain doesn't function well enough to be interesting so I try to be glib.

it all depends on public preference and who wants to answer them. plus sometimes it's easier to answer the random ones, whereas the other more in depth ones may take more effort to think of

Timing in some cases. A couple of my questions were ignored for the most part, then they got one answer that brought it back to the front page at a better time and it got all kinds of answers.

The same reason McDonalds sells more hamburgers than Morton's Steakhouse. It's a phenomenon known as the lowest common denominator.

I agree,many questions that are thought provoking and sometimes provocative get less response. I guess it takes less effort and one does not need to do research on the answers.The simple questions like "what color of hat do you wear" are much more popular.
