About a month ago my friend has a real pinball machine.
Real Pinball,(not on a computer), that would be 1942. It cost a nickel I believe, a not inconsiderable when minimum wage was about 35 cents an hour. We used to hang out at this particular, "Smoke Shop" and on Sunday afternoons someone would put in a nickel, sart playing, then four or more people would lift the machine off the floor and have a ball try to go through a slot backwards. We continued this until the spring in the slot was bent enough that a ball going through in the correct direction would just make the spring move enough to increase the score but not go through. This was done until we had a good number of free games, then the procedure was reversed and the spring was bent back to normal. We would then play for free all afternoon, making wagers of a nickel or so. The afternoon would not be complete without everyone smoking up a storm and eating Neilson's Malted Milk chocolate bars that had been frozen to teeth-chipping hardness! Everything seemed to be a nickel then, games, pop, chocolate bars, and even cigarette papers, used to roll real cigarettes, not soul destroying "reefers"!
This morning after breakfast. I have one in my dining room.
last week. i was waiting for a movie.
This past summer, we went to an arcade in Gatlinburg, TN and played all the old, fun games. Had a blast, although I sucked at pinball.
A couple days ago. We have SEVEN pinball machines in our basement:
1) Argosy (1977 Williams)
2) Centigrade 37 (1977 Gottlieb)
3) Dr. Dude (1990 Williams)
4) Flight 2000 (1980 Stern)
5) Jet Spin (1977 Gottlieb)
6) Star Trek - The Next Generation (1993 Williams)
