  • No but I wish they did. There are a few people here who I suspect wouldn't last long.
  • No... and I think it is fantastic. =)
  • I have worked for companies that have. I think it's a fair business practice for any company and a necessary business practice for companies whose employees are responsible for the safety of it's customers.
  • No but they should. I think it's a great idea and should be done at random times throughout the year.
  • This is a good question. I should say up front that I do not use illegal drugs and I am self employed. We have an expectation of privacy here. I think that both random and pre-employment drug testing is a violation of that privacy. I do however think that anyone in the position of enforcing drug laws should be screened. How can you remain objective if you are abusing a substance in which you are charged with power over. I do think there are instances where you give up your expectation of privacy. If you have been convicted of a drug crime, if you have caused in accident or harm to some one due to negligence. If I hired someone who came to work red eyed and stupid, I wouldn't need a drug test to fire them. If someone was constantly late, I would fire them. I think drug use leads to behaviors that most employers would not accept. I agree with backround checks, they are not invasive. If there is a history of issues pertaining to drug use, It is in the rights of the employer not to hire that individual. I do not think that someone who otherwise has no issues with drug use takes a hit of a joint while out golfing or whatever should be excluded from employment.
  • No. I have no objection to the practice. The only ones who would object are the ones who do drugs or who feel that they should be able to do drugs if they want to. Also those who are extremely protective of their privacy. Since I do not do drugs, I have no objection to the practice. It would be just one more deterrant from me ever starting.
  • no no no!... sorry I am 100% against these tests as they DO NOT show if your under the influence of the drugs at all ...just that they are in your system and sorry but the bosses only pay 8 hours of my time per day ...they have NO right to think they own me 24/7
  • I've worked for companies that drug tested . . . predominately due to the high rate of on-job injuries. The prospective employee has free choice here . . . if they don't believe being tested is appropriate then they must look elsewhere. As for random testing, I think that should happen when there is "probable cause," or perhaps with every OJI. Companies with unions have a very structured drug-free policy that usually protects both the employee and the company.
