i think if you buy a new CANON camera it should fit.. but before you buy a new camera, take them into the shop and ask if you can fit it on

Probably not. They may sell some sort of adapters, but modern-day Canon SLR cameras (both film and digital) use electronic lenses that are only compatible with Canon's EOS line. If you have an EOS film camera, the lenses will be compatible with a digital EOS camera. For example, the Rebel G (film) and the Digital Rebel (digital, obviously) use the same type of lenses. With older non-electronic lenses, I think you may be out of luck.

They might fit, but the imaging device in some digital cameras doesn't cover the same area as does 35mm film, so you might lose some content around the edge. Factors necessary to evaluate the result are dependent upon the format of the digital camera, e.g. full-frame, half-frame, etc.

The short of it is no, the AE-1 lenses will not work with your new digital camera. Back when all SLRs were manual and went to auto-focus (early 80's I think) the only camera manufacturer to engineer their new camera bodies to use the old lenses was Nikon. This threw off many consumers and when digital SLR's hit the streets, the manufacturers learned their lesson. So, the many of the auto focus lenses would work with the new digital SLRs but the old manual focus lenses for manual cameras would still not fit the mounts.
