  • Assuming that you have removed the bolt for the distributor blocking plate, you must then pull up on the distributor with one hand while turning the base with the other. You keep wiggling the rotor and the base at the same time you are applying upwards pressure. It takes some finese to get it out, but it should. You can also turn the engine over just a little to help keep it from binding.
  • That is right, so, take off the cap with its wires; you could get a pipe wrench or similar, once the hold down bolt and clamp are removed and move the base... just like you would if you were adjusting the timing. It is between the base and block where it is binding- no other place is possible. The wrench would serve to break it loose.
  • i amsd having the same problem with my 1985 gm oldsmobile custom cruiser. i have tried everything and nothing seems to be helping. I have tried wd-40, twisting and turning!! but shit nothing. If anyone out there can help me or has a few suggestions please e-mail me @ caregiver@centurytel.net ASAP!!! I really need your help out there. Thank You.
  • First thing U need to do is pull the #1 Plug & disconnect power to dist. Then put finger over hole & crank engine until the compression Blows Off finger from hole. Check timing marks & move crank slightly with a wrench on Crank Bolt to align if not perfect. Now mark Dist housing @ #1 plug where the Rotor Tip should be pointing. Loosen hold down clamp bolt & slide clamp from over Dist. flange. Using a "Carpenters Chisel", lay it's flat side on block & gently tap it into the "Seam" between the Dist. Flange & Block only about 1/4 inch deep rotating Dist. with the tapping. This should break up the Sludge that builds up there & allow it to come out. Once out, use a "Shotgun Bore Cleaning Brush" & Diesel Fuel to brush out the hole. John
