Do you think that it should be possible to rate questions and answers on a scale which reflects how funny they are as an alternative to how helpful they are. People could strive to be wits and comedians instead of or as well as sages and swamis

That is an interesting idea, and I think it would be cool. But, I think that it would be more trouble than it's worth. Can you imagine all the older members who are pining for the days when Answerbag was more serious about helpful answers? They'd lose their shit over this.

I actually think that's a pretty good idea. Funny answers and questions aren't always useful, but they are entertaining all the same. =)

With some observation I think you'll note that (like in life) some questions that are less serious have the funny answers ranked highest. However, (like in life) sometimes humor isn't entirely appropriate.
