  • The National Championship Game has only been held since the 1998-99 season. The first eight seasons were rotated amongst the Fiesta, Sugar, Orange, and Rose Bowls. Since then, a separate bowl has been held for the Championship Game. The record for the most consecutive appearances in the National Championship Game belongs to Florida State at three. They appeared in the game in 1999, 2000, and 2001, winning only the 2000 Sugar Bowl against Virgina Tech.
