I don't remember that date (though I don't doubt it), but I distinctly remember the panel going something like this: Garfield finds the stuffed bear. He thinks to himself, "Oh, look, a dumb old teddy bear. He pauses for a moment and considers the bear. Next thing, he's cuddling the bear and thinking, "I think I'll call him, 'Pooky.'"
