  • keithold is right; they use the Impalas and Crown Vic's here in the US as well for the power and bulk of the frame to withstand the extra weight of the souped up engines, suspension and for safety. ABer 'POLICE in hot pursuit' should be around sometime soon, he could give you more details.
  • It's because there aren't that many choices in cars that are built for police duty. Crown Vics (and maybe Impalas) can be ordered with the Police Interceptor package that comes with a hard plastic back seat, upgraded electrical system, low profile speed-rated tires, calibrated speedometer, etc. that would have to be added to other cars to make them suitable for police use.
