That does sound like a thermostat. The AC problem wouldn't affect how fast the engine heats up. No AC could cause a problem with window fogging. They run the AC at temps above 38 degrees when you select defrost to help dry the air.

i agree with csimme01 about the thermostat. I think it's stuck open and the coolant is going to the radiator and loosing it's heat when it shouldn't be. That's why it's taking so long to heat up and probably why it does'nt seem to get as hot as you'd like it to. As far as your A/C I think its a completely different problem The thermostat has nothing to do with your A/C. You probably developed a leak in the A/C line and all the coolant (not the same coolant as the heater coolant) leaked out. The leak needs to be found and fixed before you have it recharged.
