Is an medical intern the same as a first-year resident?

    Yes, in the USA, a medical intern and a first year resident are the same. Both have completed medical school, and have an M.D. degree, though he or she may not yet have a license to practice unsupervised.

    I don't think so. If I understand the terms, an intern has not yet completed medical school,and is not an M.D. A resident has graduated and received his M.D.
