It wasn't too hard at first. I am 33 & have been wearign corrective lenses since I was 8. When I was 20 I finally went for contacts because I got tired of my 2 y/o son destroying my glasses. It took me about `1 day to get used to them, but not for the comfort. Your vision is different than with glasses. I got the soft lenses & they are the best decision I ever made. I can wear them for about 18 hrs in a day, but I haev to put my glasses back on at night. Just don't sleep in them. For the 1st few days, I would recommend just wearing hem for about 6-8 hrs so you can get used to them. After wearing them for so long, you will be able to put them in your eyes w/o the mirror. It just takes some time to adjust. If they are still uncomfortable after about a week, I would go back to the Dr. to let them know you are still not comfortable with them. There are so many types out there that you might just have to try a few different brands before you find the one that works best for you.

It only took me about 10-15 minutes to forget they were in my eyes. My very first pair were gas permiable hard lenses, and lots of people say that you never get used to the feeling of those. I guess I am just not very sensitive.

I first starting wearing them over 20 years ago. They took a long time for me to get accustomed to them. The contacts I have been wearing since the late 1980's are very comfortable.

Maybe a month or so for me :-)

You are supposed to wear them for 2 hours the first day and then three the next and so on until your eyes are adjusted to the feeling of being covered. I have been wearing contacts since age 16 and now I am...older!I love the vision with contacts.

Following the ramp up schedule, it took about 4 days for me to be able to completely ignore the contacts.

If you put them in correctly the first time then they should feel fine; the only irritatio you'll feel is from poking around you eye with your finger. Normally you should wear them about 2-4 hours a day for the first week to get you eyes used to the power of the lenses and the feel. Contacts do not necessarily need to comform to you eye if your Optometrist measured your corneals correctly.
