Watch TV shows depicting court proceedings, whether real or dramatic series. These can show you subtleties of communication between wide varieties of people, and show the importance of negotiation, diplomacy and guile. When you're ready you can start observing interactions around you and try to see if you can become savvy to what's going on without necessarily being invested in the details.

There are a million ways to improve your communication skills. You can actually improve them here on the bag, by following folks that typically give concise answers. 5 or 6 come immediately to mind, but I will offer you someone like Stableboy (whom I have read this morning). Stableboy uses eloquent language, but not at the expense of getting his point across. It's a good example of not letting fancy words replace accuracy. Now, some other ways to improve, is to avoid profanity, or replacement words... Stop saying "I need to grab that fu#$(ng Doomaflitchit", and start saying "I need to pick up the yellow screwdriver"... Using profanity and replacement words hammers your vocabulary. It will eventually be such a crutch, that you will always be at a loss to really describe something.

I actually play a lot of word games like scrabble. I also regularly review word of the day lists on dictionary.com or m-w.com. When I have a question about grammar mistakes, I look it up - which inevitably creates more questions and then I look those up.

Watch a video of yourself to see things you don't realize you do. Also don't be afraid of using pauses when you speak.

Read as much as possible, to get your brain working and try to have a conversation with everyone you meet.

Read good books and think about how you would like to be treated. Remember the Golden Rule. Treat other people as you would like to be treated. Accept people for who they are. Don't expect too much from anyone.
