Only once did this happen to me when I was working in a school which had a water leak problem and mold from the wet carpet got into my socks. It gave me a problem similar to athlete's foot and I had to soak my feet everyday for several weeks and apply foot powder to my feet every day and wear white sanitized socks. It was a nasty, stinky problem and I had to wear odor eaters in my shoes for several months while the carpets were still damp.

No, but when my daughter was about 8 years old, we had an awful time getting socks off of her, and they'd be crusty! She insisted she liked crusty socks! lol

I do have some very old socks with brown stains on them; I'm not sure if they're mold or some other substance. I don't think I want to know.
