  • What browser....IE, Firefox, Safari?
  • Yes, just click on the "Permalink" next to each answer. That takes you to a full-page view of just the answer in question.
  • I came across this problem when I accessed Answerbag from a friend's computer and the only way I could see all the comments was by displaying all the answers as well.
  • 1) You have the workaround that you can open the answerview, for instance for lastwraith's answer to this question, if you click on the "Permalink" to that answer: http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/2110462 2) As stated in my comment in the comment threat to lastwraith's answer, it would be better to know which browser you are actually using, IE or FF. (Use point 3 there to check also the Version Nr.) For instance, I am using here IE Version 7.0.6000.16575 This is important because if your browser version is too old or has bugs, this could cause the error. 3) As far as I can see, "Show all comments" is a Javascript element. If you have set up a high security level on your browser, this Javascript function could have been disabled. Some site use Javascript functions to create popups and other annoying advertisements, but sometimes it is also used for the implementation of a useful functionality, such as here. How you can change those settings depends on the browser typ and version which you are using. ------- ADDED -------- FIND OUT WHICH IS YOUR BROWSER You don't have necessarily a menu bar, it could also be hidden. Here a article about a menu bar: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menu_bar 1) Internet Explorer: Your browser could look like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Windows_Internet_Explorer_7_Vista.png This is Windows Internet Explorer 7. It is written at the top of the shown window: "Main Page - Wikipedia, the free encylopedia - Windows Internet Explorer". In this case, there is a symbol (or icon) bar. So in this case, you don't use the "?" in the menu bar, but the "?" symbol in the symbol/icon bar Here is a presentation about the different verssions of Internet Explorer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_explorer You can see pictures of the various versions there. 2) Mozilla Firefox: Your browser could also look like that: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Firefox_2.0.0.6_on_Ubuntu.png Here is a presentation about Mozilla Firefox: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefox Usually, Windows comes with Internet Explorer already installed. But maybe Firefox has also been installed on your computer, so theoretically you could use both. ------- ADDED -------- ENABLE JAVASCRIPT ON INTERNET EXPLORER "How do I enable JavaScript in Internet Explorer 5.x or 6.x? From the Tools menu, click Internet Options. From the Security tab, click Custom Level. The Internet icon is highlighted by default. Scroll down to Scripting and check that "enable" is selected (more than one point, the first one, active scripting, could make it). Click OK. Click OK. From the File menu, click Close. Relaunch your browser." Follow the pictures on this page: http://gsaauctions.gov/brow_details/IE6instr.htm ------- ADDED -------- FIREWALL OR ANTIVIRUS It could be that you have some security program which is stopping javascript, such as Norton or any other firewall/antivirus you got running. Try to stop it and see what happens. Have a look at this page, especially the last posting: http://forums.devx.com/showthread.php?t=143760
  • Here the instructions to disable Norton: I give this one as an answer, because it is a little long, and the page seems to use also Javascript... The best is to disable both and see what happens: "Use the following instructions to turn off Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall. - I use Norton Internet Security STEP 1 Log on using the Supervisor account 1 Start Norton Internet Security. 2 In the Norton Internet Security window, in the left pane, click User Accounts. 3 The account that you are logged on as is displayed after "you are logged on as:" If you are logged on as Supervisor, go to "To turn on or turn off Norton Internet Security."If you are not logged on as Supervisor, go to line 4 of this STEP. 4 Click Log Off. 5 In the Confirm dialog box, click Yes. 6 Click Log On. 7 In the Log on dialog box, in the Account Name list, click Supervisor. 8 In the Password field, type your password. If you have never assigned a password to the Supervisor account, leave this field blank. 9 Click OK. You should see the text "You are logged on as: Supervisor." STEP 2 Turn on or turn off Norton Internet Security 1 Start Norton Internet Security. 2 In the left pane, click Status & Settings. 3 Click Security. 4 Click Turn on or Turn off. -------------- I use Norton Personal Firewall Turn on or turn off Norton Personal Firewall 1 Start Norton Personal Firewall. 2 In the left pane, click Status & Settings. 3 Click Security. 4 Click Turn on or Turn off."
