  • It depends on what applications you wish to use with your home computer. Celeron processors have less on-board cache memory, and also run at lower front-side-bus speeds, making them slower in general. For web browsing, e-mail, and office applications, a celeron would be perfectly suited to save costs, and the speed difference would not be noticable. For video editing and games, your best bet is to go for a pentium processor.
  • You may also want to look at a dual processor system. I had a Dual Celeron 533 on an Abit BP6 motherboard and used it every day at home and it was rock-solid. It was approx. equal in speed/power to my roommate's 1 GhZ Machine...maybe a tad slower. It's now running RedHat Linux 8 and still is a very decent machine. If you're going to be using it primarily for high end games and graphics applications, then spend the money and get the Pentium.
