10-16: cleaning houses, yardwork and the like. I did it about 2 hours a day, not counting the bus to get to the jobs. I had a nice clientèle. I also sometimes helped my father in his business (he wrote and printed tutorial texts) at that age. I ran the shrink-wrapper starting at about 13 or so.

16: prep-cook, part time. I think that is the one that would count as an official job despite my earning some decent money cleaning houses and doing yardwork.

Oh, for the record, when I was doing that it was a different world. I do NOT suggest that 10 year olds do that today!

I had a serious babysitting gig with my cousin in 7th grade so...I guess I was 12 or 13. We babysat these twin infants everyday during the summer for $4 an hour. It was fairly intense money for being that young. Haha.

I was 13. I got a summer job working for a dry cleaner's taking clothes from custermers and making home deliveries. It was fulltime, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. Hard work and very low pay, but it seemed like a fortune to me!

At age 13 I started to work at our local church as the assistant groundskeeper and the assistant janitor. I had to shovel snow in the winter, cut grass in the summer, rake leaves and help trim trees & shrubs in the autumn, and help arrange flowers in the spring ... and do a weekly sweep, mop, and take out trash. It paid a flat $125.00 per month.

I needed my own income at age 13 because that was when I got my first black belt and my parents thought that was the end and would not pay for any more of my martial arts lessons, so I had to work to be able to pay for my continued lessons.

I, like you, was 16. I worked in the factory that makes Idahoan flaked mashed potatoes. I trimmed brown spots off of potatoes in 8 hour shifts.

It was quite boring, but it kickstarted my work career, and gave me some spending money.

Where I live, you have to be at least 16 to work, even then you need "papers." My parents forced me to get a summer job as soon as I turned 16 even though they had to drive me to and from it. They said they didn't want be just laying around the house all summer. This was back in the late 1960's and the minimum wage was less than $2 an hour. I worked around at various department stores doing inventories.

    Do paper routes count?

Otherwise, my first job was working at a Baskin Robbins at the age of 15 1/2.

Seven girls (mostly cheerleaders), one guy (me), free ice cream, and a chilly, erect nipple-inducing environment -- what more could a hormonal teenage boy ask for?
