The producers probably think "fat people" wouldn't be good for the show.

MTV is notorious for being cheap. They probably don't want to have to shell out a lot of money for food. Either that or, yeah, they might not like fat people.

Not only do they not use fat people, they tend to use attractive skinny people... with the occasional chubby guy/girl in a season every now and then. This is probably due to the fact that they want the roommates to interact with other people and hook-up. Obviously skinny, attractive people are more likely to be able to bring people home and hook-up with them. I mean could you image having a bunch of fat roommates out at the bars? Do you really think they'd be hooking up as much? Less hooking-up = Less drama/excitement = Less viewers = Less money. Nobody wants to have to deal with fat people. Partly because being romantic with them is ruined by the excess fat. But also because they obviously can't even take care of themselves, how could anyone expect them to be able to take care of anyone else? They don't even care about themselves enough to remain healthy... do you really think they're going to care about anyone else? -
It would be too real.
