I am not provoked. But I am sure some people still could be. "Thousands of books and articles attempt to interpret Duchamp's artwork and philosophy, but in interviews and his writing, Duchamp only added to the mystery. The interpretations interested him as creations of their own, and as reflections of the interpreter. A playful man, Duchamp prodded thought about artistic processes and art marketing, not so much with words, but with actions such as dubbing a urinal "art" and naming it Fountain. No because it has a simple answer, but I am provoked, or rather puzzled by The Large Glass. I'm researching it and am happy to say my research is going well. I have more respect for Duchamp now. He and I have a lot in common---that we like particle physics! I will get this puzzle solved soon!

No not provoked simply intrigued and here is further information: Overtly displaced from its original context (the everyday bathroom), Fountain is not only rotated, but has been displayed suspending from a door jamb (Molesworth 56). In fact, this Ready made was hung from a lintel at an exhibition in the Sidney Janis Gallery in New York in 1953 (Ramirez 58). Molesworth notes the complete uselessness of the urinal in such positions, humorously noting that, "if a man pees in the Fountain his urine will drip on him". Fountain is perhaps best known for the huge historical scandal it sparked in the art world: the Richard Mutt Case. It was refused entry to the first exhibition of the Society of Independent Artists at the Grand Central Palace. A huge commotion followed over the Fountain not being decent. Published in the Blind Man (a Dadaist publication), was signed with Duchamp's pseudonym "R. Mutt". I guess artist can do such things and get away with it.
