It doesn't really offend me, but I do think it's a little off. Imagine what would happen if someone were to create a white entertainment television... : I've talked about this with friends of mine who are black and they've said, at least halfway jokingly, that it's owed to them. I always then explain to them that in no way are black people the sole victims of racial discrimination, past or present.

It's a commercial venture. If they want to limit their target audience, then that is their right to do so.

I have no idea what "B.E.T" is ????? can you explain??

I could not care one way or another about BET. I am neither white nor black but, if I was either, I still would not care. I think, back in the Old Days when black folks were not seen much on mainstream television, it served a purpose other than just making money. Now it is another money making venue. I am fine with that. I do not watch television and have not since around 2003, however, if I did and I objected to BET I would just not watch.

80's-90's: B.E.T started because many Black musicans (other than Micheal Jackson and Stevie Wonder), and actors as well, could not get he time of day. It was partly an acivist chanel as well as a place for new music (whih at that time was rap) to brodcasted. SInce then BET has had actors, mucans, and host of every race and nationality. They play movies regardless of if the villian is Black, White,or Latino. The current hosts are Blak and Honduran-American, and their guest have been every color of the rainbow (even Madonna, who deserves he own shade...she's a charater). So do I think it's unfair? No. It's intention is not to cut off a group of people and their audience is as varied as any other television program. However, if an individual feels like it leaves them out, there are plenty of other channels to watch that don't specalize in Rap, Hip-Hop, R&B, Blues, Jazz, and Gospel. While you're at it, why don't you ask if Telemundo is unfair too. Same idea/concept. Just a different group.

this is a good question, but many people tend to think along the wrong lines when they analyze it. the purpose of TV is for advertising. in the old days, whole TV shows were dedicated to a particular sponsor. the Idea behind BET (black entertainment television) was to have a place where black products could advertise. take something as simple as shampoo, on mainstream TV, most shampoo commercials feature a white female flinging her hair, that is not going to get blacks to buy the product. if you watch BET, you will notice that the commercials feature black hair products, black skin care products, and things like that. these products are not advertised on mainstream TV, because, blacks are a minority, and advertisers go for the big bucks (the majority audience is white) that is also why they have Telemundo, to appeal to hispanics. Hope this helped out

I understand the original intent of the channel was to provide a certain place for black musicians/actors/entertainers to get their exposure, but like feminism has evolved into something beyond the original meaning of it. Black people don't need the channel to be noticed, in fact many of the best entertainers out there are black and I totally respect them and admire them. It's become a channel exclusively dedicated to the black entertainment scene, in a more 'elitist' kind of way. I'm not against the channel, I just wish there was more variety as far as the intent and music genres.

Another product of racism I would imagine.
